movie tuesday: up & coming

Tuesday, October 04, 2011

because the weather was so fantastically hot this weekend (see yesterday’s post), we didn’t go to the movies this weekend.  so i decided to show a few up and coming movies (here in UK) for october.

1.  The Lion King 3D

this is probably the movie that i’m the MOST excited for!! (even if i’ve seen it millions of times).  this movie bring back SO many good memories:  janine (my little sis) watching it SO many times on dvd that she knew EVERY word; and me, trying to teach a bunch of 2-4 year olds a dance & concert piece from this movie – this was NOT an easy task!

the film came out in 1994 (17 years ago) and Walt Disney decided to celebrate the diamond edition release of this movie on Blu-ray & Blu-ray 3D with screening it in cinemas for a limited time period (will only be released in the UK on 7, 8 & 10 Oct).

if you’ve not seen this (you seriously should make a plan to see this) here is the storyline:  A young lion prince is born in Africa, thus making his uncle Scar the second in line to the throne. Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba, thus making himself King. The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in shame. After years of exile he is persuaded to return home to overthrow the usurper and claim the kingdom as his own thus completing the "Circle of Life". {via: imdb}

2.  The Three Musketeers

storyline:  The hot-headed young D'Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.

i LOVED the three musketeers movie that came out in 1993. so hopefully this version won’t dissapoint.  apparantly this new version of the three musketeers is closer to the original book, written by Alexandre Dumas.

3.  Real Steel

storyline:  A future-set story where robot boxing is a popular sport and centered on a struggling promoter (Jackman) who thinks he's found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he also discovers he has an 11-year-old son who wants to know his father.

The film is based on the 1956 short story "Steel" by Richard Matheson.  after looking at the trailer it kind of looks like rocky but with robots.  (they already confirmed that there will be a sequel.)

4.  Paranormal Activity 3

storyline:  In 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi encounter an invisible entity haunting their home. Although it appears friendly, it turns hostile, tormenting the young girls and their family.  A scene near the start of the film, which is based before the second film, features Katie bringing over a box of video tapes to the home of her sister Kristi and after leaving Kristi starts to sort through some of tapes, being filmed by her husband Daniel.

i really enjoyed the 1st one that came out in 2007, but the 2nd one (in 2010) had it’s good moments but wasn’t as scary as the first one. so hopefully this one will be as good as the first.

  1. oh!!! the lion king!! :) I would love to see it on cinema, I was too young to remember that I watched it on cinema, but that really was one of my favourite movies when I grew up, and knew almost all the words and could speak along! I even knew all the words to all the songs! I remember you taught that dance and sing-along thing for the Lion King when I was in kindergarten ! I remember all of the kids faces was painted like animals! still don't know how you had the patience to teach 3-4 year olds a whole dance!

I hope paranormal activity 3 is better than one, but I believe strongly that when it comes to scary movies, they should stick to one movie and not doing sequels of it, mostly in the second and third movies you can already predict whats about to happen because it's usually similar to the first one...

but I hope you get to watch all of these on cinema and tell me how it was!? :) luckily you know what kind of movies I like, so you can tell me if I should go see it, when it comes to South-Africa. :)

    Love you always

ps. probably the longest comment in history! :)
