movie tuesday: friends with benefits and The Pirates!
let's start with friends with benefits
plot:
While trying to avoid the clichés of Hollywood romantic comedies, Dylan and Jamie soon discover however that adding the act of sex to their friendship does lead to complications.
my review:
i think that it's a cute film (i know wayne won't agree) but it doesn't fully reach its potential. it didn't quite rise above the romantic material it mocked but it still was funny and adorable.
in the first half of the film it had plenty of laugh out loud moments but in the second half when they realise its more complicated than they thought. the film gets predictable and too dramatic to fit in with the beginning half.
don't get me wrong i did enjoy it in the end but it could have been so much more.
we were lucky to see a sneak preview screening of this film on sunday (as mentioned here). i am not allowed to give too much away about the film, so i will tell you the plot & our experience since it was the first time for us to view a film as a sneak preview.
plot:
A hapless band of pirates compete for the Pirate of the Year award. (via: imdb)
Directors:
Peter Lord, Jeff NewittWriters:
Gideon Defoe (book), Gideon Defoe (screenplay)Stars:
Hugh Grant, Brendan Gleeson and Jeremy Piven
the guardian newspaper released this world exclusive trailer - go and have a look.
our experience:
and what a strange experience that was. we got our 2 tickets & showed up at the cinema on sunday. at the door you had to hand in your mobile phone, cameras & anything that can record. they also gave you a questionnaire that you had to fill in afterwards to let them know what you thought of the film & what you would change.
before the film started, they explained to us that it is still in production, so not all the scenes are completed. some were drawings, some with green screens attached & other scenes still need to be 'cleaned-up'. it was quite weird to watch a film like that.
i must admit i enjoyed it and it was funny, cute & had a heart felt story to the core (like most children movies should have).
i can't wait to watch this again in march 2012 when the official release date is! i would love to see if they changed anything & what the complete film looks like.
