movie tuesday

i will always think of tuesday’s as MOVIE DAY.  we were always a big group of friends to go down to Sterkinekor and use our membership (platinum) cards and only pay half price for a movie and on your birthday you got to go for free and with free popcorn en cooldrink.  it was so much fun!  (this was when i still lived in SA – Pretoria).

now here in london, i still have a membership card (cineworld) but this card you have to pay a monthly membership fee and can go and watch as many movies as you possible can during that month.  we normally go over the weekend.

this weekend we went to see Source code with Jake Gyllenhaal.  this is an action thriller centered on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train.

This is not just good science fiction, it’s also a good movie. This has been a solid season for movies with sci-fi-like concepts that did not rely heavily on special effects. “Limitless” may not have been as bright as its main character, but it was a fun ride throughout, and even if I wanted to complain about the Hollywood ending, I have to admit that sometimes it’s nice to see the good guys win. I’m not going to tell you who wins in “Source Code,” but needless to say, if you’ve seen the previews and the commercials, you’ve only started to unravel the layers of this movie.

In the end, “Source Code” is a movie I can highly recommend. It’s good sci-fi that isn’t bogged down by effects. It’s a good drama that isn’t held back by poorly-written characters who don’t have the intelligence or foresight of the audience cringing at their every move. It’s fun entertainment, with a fast-moving plot and a steady feed of interesting details and twists. Best of all, by the end the movie has become something entirely different, and perhaps even better than it was when it started.

  1. Oh cool Source Code sounds awesome! I'd have to watch it then...
I also want to see Red Riding Hood and Beastly as well as Fast Five sounds awesome, just the fact that "The Rock", Vin Diesel and Paul Walker plays in the same movie!? I mean really!? oh! and a new scream!? Are they serious!? Oh MY!? But would love to know what other clichè they could come up with, a new thing we can laugh about afterwards... Oh, and I would LOVE to see Thor!! Can't wait for that!! and I think I'll give Your Highness a pass, not my kind of movie, I don't really like comedies... :)
But wow! there's allot of movies I'd love to see!! Only wish I could go see them with you !! It's always fun watching a movie with you! :)
Love you and missing you terribly!

  2. I totally agree with you about Source Code. I saw that last week and loved it! It really was a very good storyline and it definitely kept you guessing until the very end!

Another good one I've seen recently is The Adjustment Bureau. I LOVED that movie. It's really much more of a romance than an action, but it's got enough of both to keep the storyline moving along nicely. I highly recommend that movie. :)
