only a month left

being here in south africa is great and sad at the same time.

great because our families got to meet riley and he is LOVING them.  great because he can experience the sun and the lovely outside lifestyle here.  great because all our aunts, uncles, cousins and grandma get to know this sweet little boy of mine.  great because he got to meet his nieces and nephew.  great because he got to spend his first christmas here with the family.

and then sad because wayne isn’t here.  sad because wayne is missing out on being with riley everyday and seeing all the cute things he is doing.  sad because we miss wayne so so much.  sad because i have to start thinking about going back to london in a month's time. sad because we are going to miss the family so much when we are back in the UK.

riley has grown so much since being here, he even got a bit of a tan.
while we've been here:  he started to sit on his own.  he started eating solids, firstly with cereal and then later with veggies & fruit.  he also started with finger foods.  he went swimming (the first time in a very small pink pool).  he went for his first swimming lessons.  experienced christmas with the family.  met santa - and wasn't even scared.  found his voice and is starting to ‘talk’ more and more.  met the family.  stayed such a sweet natured & friendly little boy.  got to experience the ocean and beach (he loved the water and sand between his toes).  saw pets like cats and dogs for the first time - and absolutely LOVE them. and even got baptist here.

it is going to be so hard for us both when we have to leave here (in a month’s time, to be exact).  we will miss the family, sun, outdoors and heat.  i think it will be hard for riley to get use to the cold again.  the only thing i’m super excited about is seeing my lovely husband again (for that we can’t wait!!).

that little face

this little man pulls this face (raspberry mouth) when he doesn't like something (food in his mouth - mainly banana at this stage).
and he also pulls this face if the water gets in his face at his swimming class.

series: 7 months

this little man is 7 months old (on the 29th Jan 2013 - to be precise).
he is such a cute and friendly little boy and i just can't get enough of him.
he is starting to 'talk' more and more now - say things like ta da ma - but he does it so softly, its just to adorable.
he loves the animals here and as soon as he sees them he starts 'talking' to them.
he is still LOVING his swimming classes and gets so excited when he sees the swimming pool.  he now needs to put his head under the water and he thinks its nothing - only make brrrrrr when he comes up.
he LOVES his food.  he is eating veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, pumpkin, butternut squash... only to name a few.  he is also loving the yogurt and fruit he gets for lunch.  he is getting use to the fruit now and loves apple and peaches.
we went to pretoria to visit family and he loved it there, especially sitting on my grandmothers lap (in her wheelchair) when we went shopping.
when he has a toy in his hand that makes a noise when you press it - he presses that toy against his body for it to make a noise.
he can pick 2 toys (small ones) up in one hand.
he can place a toy from one hand to the other and also turn it around - to see what the toy looks like.
he also started noticing that when he swing the toys in his hand it will make a noise (the ones that can).
when he finds something very funny, he crinkles his nose.
we also showed him to make 'indian' noises - when we put our hand in front of his mouth - he goes 'aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh'.
when i pick him up, almost always pats me on the shoulder.
and he has a smooth surface toy (like a ball) or my shoulder against his mouth - he goes 'bbbbrrrr' (raspberries with his mouth) against it.
i just can't believe he is getting so big!
i just want to say - thank you for his constant smile, his interest in everything around him, his love for the outdoors, his love for my family (and them loving him back).  he is such a good little boy and i can't wait to see him grow!  we love you my little ducky! xx

series: 5 & 6 months old

i am SO SO SO behind with this series.  i am still in south africa and don't have regular access to the internet.  so here is the first one:
mr riley turned 5 months old on 29th november 2012
Here is a few notes i made about him being 5 months old:
22 Nov:  Riley rolled over 3 times in his evening sleep. he rolled from his back to his front.  he hated laying on his tummy and woke up to complain about it.  i turned him back on his back and fell back to sleep straight away.
25 Nov:  mr R noticed that when he coughs we all pay him attention by either asking him if he is okay or by doing the same.  so now he is giving us fake coughs when he feels like attention.  we (my mom & dad, sisters, andre, katinka and riley & me) went to a photoshoot.
at the photoshoot we were telling the photographer that he can't sit up by himself yet, but then when we turned around he was sitting by himself (for the very first time).
26 Nov:  mr R was laying down on his back laughing at his 'ouma' (grandmother in afrikaans) and the next moment he was sitting up.  we were so shocked that he was doing this by himself, that we made him do it a few times.
8 Dec:  riley is sticking out his arms now to go someone.  he is also now rolling over from his back to front and back again on his own.
my little mister is such a happy little boy.  when you tickle him he gets goose bumps/pimples.  he LOVES it when you massage, brush & rub is head - he pulls a face of pure pleasure.  he still LOVES his massages.  he LOVES all men (i think he is surrounded by way to many women).  he misses his daddy terribly.  it's so bad that when he sees & hears his daddy's voice on skype or on phone he pulls this very sad face and starts to cry.
he has 3 spoons of cereal in his milk at night - just waiting for his dad to get here to start with cereal in the morning.  he LOVES being the centre of attention - and that is so easy with all his aunts, uncles and grandparents.  he HATES laying flat on his back.  he starting to cry or pull a face when i leave the room.  he hates the laying on his back so much that wants to try to sit up and drink his milk - this is a bit tricky since i'm still breastfeeding.
he is also starting to notice the sunglasses and hat on his head.  he pulls the sunglasses off and also his hat.
and now 6 months, on 29 Dec 2012:
when daddy arrived from the uk we started with giving riley cereal.  he started eating his cereal in the evening and didn't even pull a face.  so less than a week later we gave him cereal in the morning too.  a week later we started with giving him one veggie at dinner time (replaced the evening cereal).  with that he pulled a face and found the texture weird but that was only the first night.  after that it was full steam ahead for him.  a week later we started with fruit for lunch time.  that he didn't like that much but after a few days he started to love the fruit too.
mommy is so funny!!

my busy little man - pure concentration to stay upright
and lets end this photoshoot with me sucking my toes.
my little man is getting so BIG!!
